Gold IRA
Advantage Gold Reviews: Ratings, Custodians and Alternatives
Advantage Gold is a gold IRA company founded in 2014 and now based in Austin, Texas. It specializes in rolling existing IRAs and 401(k)s into gold, silver, platinum and palladium, and it advertises heavily through endorsers, most prominently commentator Benny Johnson and former CIA officer Jason Hanson. It calls itself "America's #1 Rated Gold Company".
This review sets out what Advantage Gold says about itself, what its public record shows, and what its own catalog and disclosures tell you before you call. We are not paid by Advantage Gold and have not been its customer. Facts below come from Advantage Gold's website and its Better Business Bureau listing, read on November 6, 2026, and we say where a statement is the company's own claim.
The short version: Advantage Gold is an established, BBB-accredited dealer with an A+ rating, two named IRA custodians and three named vaults. Its FAQ says it will never turn a customer away on a buyback, but it publishes no minimum and no written buyback terms, and its own shop prices some collectible silver at several times the value of the metal. If you deal with it, stick to standard bullion and get every price in writing. If you are moving $50,000 or more, Augusta Precious Metals, our first-ranked company, is the one we would call first.

Reputation and ratings
BBB. Advantage Gold LLC's BBB listing in Austin shows an A+ rating and BBB accreditation. The BBB also keeps a separate, older listing for Advantage Gold LLC at a Los Angeles address on Wilshire Boulevard, rated A+ and not accredited; the company appears to have started in Los Angeles. A BBB rating reflects how a business handles complaints and how long it has operated. It is not a review of prices.
Other platforms. Advantage Gold says TrustLink, a review site, has named it America's top trusted gold IRA company eight years in a row, and its reviews page points to ratings on TrustLink, Google, the BBB and ConsumerAffairs. These are the company's own figures; check each platform for the current numbers.
Regulatory record. We searched for enforcement actions by the CFTC, the SEC and state attorneys general naming Advantage Gold and did not find one in the sources we checked. That is not proof that no complaint exists. Read the complaints section of its BBB listing before you buy, as you would with any dealer.
Who runs it
Advantage Gold's About page names Kirill Zagalsky as CEO. It says he began as a licensed commodities broker dealing in energy and precious metals futures and options, started and sold his own brokerage firm, moved into physical precious metals in 2011, and co-founded Advantage Gold in 2014. The company says it has grown to more than $1 billion in sales.
The About page describes the company's approach as education first, with the line "we guide, we never pressure". It says its team will set up your gold IRA, contact your current custodian to process the rollover or transfer for you, and offer buyback services later.
Gold IRA: custodians and storage
This is where Advantage Gold is more open than many of its competitors.
- Custodians. Its FAQ names STRATA Trust Company and Equity Trust Company as its recommended IRA custodians. STRATA, it notes, was founded in 2008 as a subsidiary of Horizon Bank.
- Storage. It names Brink's Global Services, in Los Angeles or Salt Lake City, and Delaware Depository in Wilmington, Delaware.
- No home storage for IRAs. Its gold IRA page says correctly that IRA metals must be held in an approved depository, "not a safe deposit box or in your home", and that taking possession counts as a withdrawal.
One detail in its terms is worth reading. If you open an IRA with STRATA, Advantage Gold's terms say the company is initially appointed as your designated self-directed IRA representative, subject to your right to change that. Ask what that role allows Advantage Gold to do on your account, and how you would remove it if you wanted to.
Costs. The custodian and the depository charge for their services every year, and Advantage Gold's own disclosure says your metals must rise enough to cover "the mark up/ commissions charged" before you see a profit. We do not reproduce cost figures on this site, because they change and depend on the account. Ask Advantage Gold for every charge and for its markup on each product, in writing. Our guide to gold IRA fees explains how to compare quotes like for like.
Products: bullion, and some costly collectibles
Advantage Gold's shop lists standard bullion, including Canadian Gold and Silver Maple Leafs, South African Krugerrands, American Silver Eagles and a 1 oz gold bar, as well as pre-1965 U.S. silver coins and Australian bullion coins. Its disclaimers also name proof, certified and numismatic coins among the products it sells.
Its shop also shows how much some collectible pieces cost compared with the silver in them. On November 6, 2026:
- A 1 oz Trump silver medallion, a proof-finish piece the company says it produces, was listed at $150.00. It contains one troy ounce of .999 silver, which was worth about $52 that day. That is nearly three times the value of its silver. The product page says "No refunds".
- A 1 oz "Silver Bullet", a .999 silver piece shaped like a .45 caliber round, was listed at $83.87, out of stock, also with no refunds.
Collectible pieces like these can be fine gifts, but as a store of value you pay heavily for the design. Standard bullion coins and bars are priced much closer to the metal and are easier to sell back. Our gold IRA tax rules guide explains which products qualify for an IRA.
Buyback
Advantage Gold's FAQ says its buyback process is "simple and straightforward" and that it will "never turn away a customer", and its shop says it buys back gold and silver. We did not find written terms for how a buyback price is set. Before you buy, ask what Advantage Gold would pay today for each item you are being sold, and get the answer in writing.
Endorsements
Advantage Gold gives its endorsers their own pages. It calls Benny Johnson the "Godfather of the Conservative Internet" and quotes him saying he trusts the company with his precious metals, and it quotes Jason Hanson, a former CIA officer and author, in the same way. Endorsements are paid marketing. They tell you nothing about the prices you will be quoted.
What Advantage Gold's own disclosures say
Its site footer states that Advantage Gold and its representatives are not licensed or registered financial advisers, attorneys or CPAs, and do not give legal, tax or financial advice; that precious metals carry a risk of loss and are not suitable for everyone; and that it cannot promise any metal will rise enough "to produce a profit above and beyond the mark up/ commissions charged". In other words, the specialist you speak to is selling.

- Is this standard bullion, or a proof, certified, numismatic or collectible piece? Why are you recommending it?
- Is there a minimum, for an IRA or for delivery?
- Which custodian and which vault will hold my account, and what does each charge every year? Is the storage segregated?
- What does being my "designated representative" on the IRA allow you to do?
- How is the specialist I speak to paid on this order?

Is a gold IRA right for me?
That depends on your circumstances, which a website cannot judge. Gold pays no income and its price can fall. Speak with a licensed financial professional who is not paid on the sale.
The bottom line
Advantage Gold is a legitimate, A+ rated, Austin-based gold IRA company that is unusually clear about its custodians and vaults and correctly firm about IRA storage rules. It is less clear about minimums, buyback prices and markups, and its own shop shows how much a collectible piece can cost over its metal value. Favor standard bullion, get every price and the buyback price in writing, and compare the total with another company. For a larger rollover, start with Augusta Precious Metals.
