Gold IRA
American Hartford Gold Reviews: Ratings and Free Guide
American Hartford Gold is one of the most widely advertised names in physical gold and silver, and one of the easiest to start with. It sells gold, silver and platinum for retirement accounts and for delivery to your door, and it publishes the lowest starting amount of the three companies we compare on this site.
This review looks at what the public record shows: American Hartford Gold's Better Business Bureau rating, its customer ratings, how its gold IRA and home delivery options work, what it says about buying your metals back, and what you get when you request its free guide.
The short version: American Hartford Gold holds an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, where it has been accredited since June 2016. It reports a five-star customer rating on Trustpilot and Google, says it has delivered more than $4 billion in precious metals, and lets you open a gold IRA with $10,000. If you want to start with a smaller amount, or you want a say in where your metal is stored, requesting its free guide is a sensible first step.

What customers say about American Hartford Gold
Anyone searching for "American Hartford Gold reviews" wants to hear from people who have already bought. The company is reviewed on all the major platforms, and its scores are at the top of the scale.
| Platform | American Hartford Gold's rating | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Better Business Bureau | A+ business rating; accredited since 6/3/2016 | BBB profile |
| Trustpilot | Five out of five, based on more than one thousand reviews | As reported by the company |

| Consumer Affairs | Top ratings, with hundreds of five-star reviews | As reported by the company |
The business rating and accreditation date come from the Better Business Bureau's own profile. The review scores are as American Hartford Gold reports them, and scores move over time, so open the profiles yourself before you decide. Read a few of the lower-rated reviews as well as the best ones; how a company responds when something goes wrong tells you more than the average.
The company also points to its size as evidence of trust. It says it has served 2 million Americans, delivered more than $4 billion in precious metals, and shipped 29 million items. Those are the company's own figures.
Recognition
- Inc. 5000. American Hartford Gold says it has made Inc. magazine's list of America's fastest-growing private companies five times.
- Well-known endorsers. The company says it is the only precious metals company exclusively recommended by Bill O'Reilly, and its site features Rick Harrison among others. An endorsement is advertising, not a review, but it does mean the company's name and record have been put in front of a very large audience for years.
What we like about American Hartford Gold
The lowest published starting amount
This is the main reason American Hartford Gold is on our list. It publishes a $10,000 minimum for a gold IRA. The other two companies we compare either ask for far more or do not publish a figure. For someone who wants to move a modest part of a retirement account into gold, a published, reachable minimum is the difference between being able to start and not.
A choice of where your metal is stored
American Hartford Gold names its depositories, including Brink's Global Services and Delaware Depository, and lets you choose between them. It also explains the two kinds of storage. Commingled storage, the default, returns metal of the same type and quality. Segregated storage keeps your own coins and bars apart, and is available on request. Being told all this before you buy is less common than it should be.
IRA or home delivery
You do not need a retirement account to buy from American Hartford Gold. Its physical delivery option ships metals to your door, insured, with no account or custodian involved, and you store them however you choose. That makes it easy to hold some metal in an IRA and some at home through the same company.
Honest buyback wording
American Hartford Gold offers what it calls its Buyback Commitment. It encourages clients to come to it first when they want to sell, and describes a quick three-step liquidation process. It also says, in plain words, that it cannot legally guarantee to repurchase metals. That candor is worth something. No dealer can make that guarantee, and a company that says so is easier to trust than one that implies otherwise.
Gold, silver and platinum
The company sells gold and silver coins, bars and rounds, and platinum as well. If you want more than one metal in the same account, you can do that here.
A simple start
American Hartford Gold describes opening an account as three steps, and you can begin either on the phone or through an online form. Its account executives handle the transfer paperwork with the custodian.
How an American Hartford Gold IRA works
A gold IRA is a self-directed retirement account that holds physical gold. The metal belongs to the IRA and is stored at an approved depository; the IRS does not allow it to be kept at home. American Hartford Gold sets out the process in three steps.
- Contact the company. You open your precious metals IRA through the online intake form or with a representative over the phone. The custodian is Equity Trust Company.
- Fund your account. You fund the IRA with a transfer, a rollover or a contribution. The company says a traditional IRA, Roth IRA, Thrift Savings Plan or 401(k) can be used, and that its team handles the transfer with you.
- Choose your metals. You select IRS-approved coins and bars, gold, silver or both, and they are shipped to the depository you chose.
Gold in an IRA must be at least 99.5% pure, with an exception for the American Gold Eagle, and silver must be at least 99.9% pure. The company's representatives can tell you which of its products qualify.

Silver through American Hartford Gold
Silver gets the same treatment as gold. You can hold IRA-approved silver in the same account, and the company's free guide covers both metals. Silver costs far less per ounce and takes far more space to store, which is where a choice of depository and of storage type becomes useful.
Our ranking of the best silver IRA companies explains how silver behaves in a retirement account, and American Hartford Gold is in the top three there too.
Claim Free Gold and Silver Guide
Physical delivery to your door
The home delivery route is the simplest way to buy. American Hartford Gold describes it in three steps as well: speak with a specialist about what you want, fund the purchase, and receive your metals. Shipping is insured, and the company says it does not charge for it. There is no custodian, because there is no retirement account involved, and the metal is yours to keep wherever you like.
This is the route for buyers who want gold or silver in their own possession, or who are using savings held outside a retirement plan.
The free guide: what it is and how to claim it
American Hartford Gold's free guide is its Gold & Silver Preservation Guide for 2026. The company describes it as a guide to taking physical control of your savings. It costs nothing to request.

- Request the guide. You enter your contact details, including a phone number.
- Expect a call. A representative will get in touch. Use the call to ask about the minimum for your situation, which depository would hold your metal, and how the buyback works.
- Read and decide. Go through the guide in your own time. Requesting it does not open an account or move any money.
The guide is worth having even if you are only starting to look. It puts the company's process in writing, and the call lets you judge the people before you commit to anything. Our article on the free gold IRA kit explains what to look for in any company's guide.
Things to know before you call
A review should name the gaps as well as the strengths.
- It is the youngest of the three companies we compare, in business since 2015. Its Better Business Bureau accreditation is more recent than the others'.
- The buyback is a commitment, not a guarantee. The company says so itself.
- Its pages list slightly different sets of depositories. Confirm which one would hold your metal.
- The minimum for a cash purchase is not published. The $10,000 figure is for an IRA.
- Expect a phone call after you request the guide. That is how every company in this field works.
We leave costs out of this review. The numbers that circulate online are often wrong or out of date, so ask the company for its current schedule in writing.
Who American Hartford Gold suits
Going by what the company offers and what its customers say, it is a good match for:
- First-time buyers who want to start with a smaller amount.
- Savers with a modest balance to roll over, for whom a $10,000 minimum is within reach.
- Buyers who want metal at home, delivered and insured, without opening an account.
- People who want a say in storage, with named depositories and a choice between commingled and segregated.
- Anyone who values a straight answer about what a buyback can and cannot promise.

What is American Hartford Gold's minimum?
$10,000 for a gold IRA. The minimum for a cash purchase is not published. These were the figures on October 1, 2026.
Is the free guide really free?
Yes. It costs nothing and requesting it does not open an account. You provide a phone number, so expect a call.

Yes, if you buy outside a retirement account. The company ships insured to your door. Gold held in an IRA must stay at an approved depository.

At approved depositories that it names, including Brink's Global Services and Delaware Depository. You choose, and you can ask for segregated storage.

Is an American Hartford Gold IRA right for me?
That depends on your circumstances, and a website cannot judge them. Gold pays no interest or dividends and its price can fall. Speak with a licensed financial professional who is not paid on the sale.
