Gold IRA
Goldco Reviews: Ratings, Buyback and the Free Kit
Goldco is one of the best-known names in gold and silver IRAs. It sells physical gold and silver for retirement accounts and for delivery to your door, and it has one of the longest public records in the business.
This review looks at what that record shows: Goldco's Better Business Bureau rating, the customer ratings it has earned across review sites, its buyback program, how its gold and silver IRAs work, and what you get when you request its free kit.
The short version: Goldco holds an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, where it has been accredited since December 2011. It reports more than 8,000 five-star customer reviews, puts its buyback policy in writing, and sells both IRA and non-IRA gold and silver. For anyone considering a precious metals IRA, requesting Goldco's free kit is a sensible first step. In our own comparison of gold companies, Goldco ranks second of three.

What customers say about Goldco
The phrase people search for is "Goldco reviews", so start there. Goldco is reviewed on every major platform, and the scores are consistently high.
| Platform | Goldco's rating | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Better Business Bureau | A+ business rating; accredited since 12/9/2011 | BBB profile |
| BBB customer reviews | 4.8 out of 5 | As reported by Goldco |
| 4.9 out of 5 | As reported by Goldco | |
| Trustpilot | 4.8 out of 5 | As reported by Goldco |
| Business Consumer Alliance | Triple A | As reported by Goldco |
Goldco says it has earned more than 8,000 five-star ratings in total, and that it is reviewed on Google, Trustpilot, Consumer Affairs, Retirement Living and the Better Business Bureau. Scores move over time, so open the profiles yourself before you decide. The Better Business Bureau profile is the one to read first, because it shows complaints and how each one was resolved, not only star ratings.
Read through the reviews Goldco publishes and the same themes come up again and again:
- Knowledgeable staff. Reviewers describe representatives who explain how a rollover works and answer questions plainly.
- No pressure. Several say they were given time to decide.
- A smooth process. First-time buyers in particular mention that the paperwork was handled for them.
- Repeat business. A number of reviewers say they came back for a second purchase, some for an IRA and then again for metals held at home.
Those are the company's selected reviews, so treat them as the best case. Even so, a rating near 4.8 across thousands of reviews on independent platforms is hard to earn and harder to keep.
What we like about Goldco
A long record under one roof
Goldco has been accredited by the Better Business Bureau since December 2011 and holds its top rating, A+. Among the three companies we compare on this site, that is the longest accreditation. In a business where dealers come and go, nearly fifteen years of an open public record counts for a lot.
Recognition beyond its own website
Goldco lists a run of outside awards: it says it has been named to the Inc. 5000 list of fast-growing private companies nine times, received a 2025 Bronze Stevie Award, and was named Best Customer Service for 2026 by Money.com. Awards are not a reason to buy on their own, but they are harder to fake than a slogan, and they point the same way as the customer ratings.
A buyback program in writing
Selling is the part of owning gold that people think about last and should think about first. Goldco states that it will buy back metals purchased from Goldco at any time, and that its "highest price" buyback promise applies once three years have passed since your first purchase. Most dealers say much less than that on paper.
IRA or delivery, gold or silver
Goldco is not only an IRA company. Its website offers three routes: open a gold IRA, open a silver IRA, or buy gold and silver directly with your savings and have it shipped to you. That flexibility matters if you want some metal in a retirement account and some at home.
A free silver promotion
Goldco currently advertises up to 10% in free silver on qualifying orders.* It is a promotion with conditions, set out at the foot of this page, and it applies to larger purchases. If your order qualifies, it is a real addition to what you receive.
Help with the paperwork
A gold IRA involves a custodian and a depository as well as the dealer. Goldco says it works with all major self-directed IRA custodians and that a representative walks you through each step. For most people that hand-holding is the main thing they are paying a specialist for.
How a Goldco gold IRA works
A gold IRA is a self-directed retirement account that holds physical gold. The gold is owned by the IRA and stored at an insured depository; the IRS does not allow it to be kept at home. Goldco describes the process in three steps.
- Open your IRA. You sign an agreement with Goldco, and a representative helps you set up the self-directed account with a custodian.
- Fund it. Money is rolled over or transferred from an existing retirement account, such as a 401(k), 403(b), TSP or IRA. Done correctly, Goldco notes, this normally takes place without tax consequences.
- Choose your metals. Once the account is funded, you pick the IRA-eligible gold you want, and it is shipped to the depository.
Gold held in an IRA has to be at least 99.5% pure, with an exception for the American Gold Eagle. Goldco sells IRA-eligible coins and bars, and its representatives can tell you which products qualify.
If you want the full background first, our guide to the best gold IRA companies explains transfers, rollovers and storage in more detail.
Goldco's silver IRA
Goldco gives silver equal billing. A silver IRA works the same way as a gold one: the same three steps, the same custodian and depository arrangement, and the same tax treatment. The difference is the metal. IRA silver has to be at least 99.9% pure.
Silver costs far less per ounce than gold, so it lets you hold more metal for the same money, and some savers hold both in one account. Goldco's free silver promotion* is also paid in silver, which makes the company a natural fit for anyone who wants silver in the mix.
For a wider look, see our ranking of the best silver IRA companies, where Goldco is also in the top three.
Buying gold and silver directly
You do not need a retirement account to buy from Goldco. Its direct purchase route works like any other sale: you choose your coins or bars, pay with your savings, and Goldco ships them to the destination you choose, which can be a depository or your own doorstep.
This is the simpler path for anyone who wants metal in their own possession, or who is buying with money held outside a retirement plan. Goldco's buyback wording refers to metals purchased from Goldco, so ask whether it covers a direct purchase as well as an IRA.
Goldco's free kit: what it is and how to claim it
Like most companies in this field, Goldco offers a free information kit. Goldco calls it its gold and silver kit. It is the company's guide to owning physical gold and silver, including how a precious metals IRA works, and it costs nothing to request.

The request form is short.
- Request the kit. You give your first name, last name, email address and phone number.
- Expect a call. A Goldco representative will get in touch. This is the moment to ask your questions: the minimum for your situation, where your metals would be stored, and how the buyback works.
- Read and decide. Go through the guide in your own time. Requesting the kit does not open an account or move any money.
The kit is worth having even if you are only starting to look. It gives you the company's process in writing, and the call gives you a chance to judge the people before you commit to anything. Our article on the free gold IRA kit explains what to look for in any company's guide.
The buyback program in detail
Goldco's website describes its buyback program as "guaranteed at the highest price". The terms behind that phrase are stated on the same site, and they are worth knowing before you buy.
- Goldco will buy back metals that were purchased from Goldco, at any time.
- The "highest price" promise applies after three years from your first purchase.
- No specific buyback rate is guaranteed in advance.
In plain terms, Goldco commits to being a buyer for what it sold you, which removes the worry of finding one yourself. The price on the day depends on the market. Ask your representative how the buyback price is set for the products you are considering, and compare it with the price you are paying.
Things to know before you call
A review should say where the gaps are, too. None of these is a mark against Goldco's conduct, but each is a question to bring to the call.
- The minimum purchase is not published on the Goldco pages we read. Ask what it is for an IRA and for a direct purchase.
- The depository is not named on those pages. Goldco says IRA metals go to a secure vault at an insured depository. Ask which one, and whether storage is segregated or commingled.
- Promotions have conditions. The free silver offer* depends on the size of the order and on the products bought.
- Expect a phone call after you request the kit. That is how every company in this field works.
We also leave costs out of this review. The numbers that circulate online are often wrong or out of date, so ask Goldco for its current schedule in writing.
How Goldco compares
On this site we compare three companies: Augusta Precious Metals, Goldco and American Hartford Gold. Goldco ranks second overall. It leads the three on length of Better Business Bureau accreditation and on the detail of its buyback wording. Augusta ranks first because it publishes more about its process up front, and American Hartford Gold publishes the lowest starting amount.
If you care most about a written buyback policy and want the choice of an IRA or home delivery from the same company, Goldco is the strongest of the three. You can see the full comparison in our ranking.
Who Goldco suits
Going by what the company offers and what its customers say, Goldco is a good match for:
- First-time buyers who want someone to handle the rollover paperwork and explain each step.
- Savers who want both metals. Gold and silver can sit in the same Goldco IRA, and the current promotion is paid in silver.
- Buyers thinking about the exit. The buyback program gives you a known buyer for what you purchase.
- People who want a mix of IRA and home delivery. One company can handle both, so you deal with the same team each time.
- Anyone who puts weight on reputation. A long Better Business Bureau accreditation and thousands of five-star ratings are the strongest signals available from the outside.
If you already know your order is small, ask about the minimum at the start of the call so nobody's time is wasted.
FAQ
Is Goldco legit?
On the public record, yes. Goldco holds an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and has been accredited there since December 2011. It reports more than 8,000 five-star customer reviews across Google, Trustpilot and other platforms.
Is Goldco's free kit really free?
Yes. The kit costs nothing and requesting it does not open an account. You do provide your phone number, and a Goldco representative will call.
What is Goldco's minimum purchase?
Goldco does not publish a minimum on the pages we read. Ask when the representative calls; it can differ between an IRA and a direct purchase.
Does Goldco offer a silver IRA?
Yes. Goldco offers gold IRAs and silver IRAs, and both metals can be held in the same account.
Will Goldco buy my metals back?
Goldco says it will buy back metals purchased from Goldco at any time. Its "highest price" promise applies after three years from your first purchase, and no specific rate is guaranteed.
Can I roll over a 401(k) into a Goldco IRA?
Goldco says that 401(k), 403(b), TSP and IRA accounts can all be rolled over or transferred into a precious metals IRA, and that its representatives handle the process with you. A plan with your current employer may have its own restrictions.
Where does Goldco store IRA metals?
In a secure vault at an insured depository, as the IRS requires. Goldco does not name the depository on the pages we read, so ask.
Is a Goldco gold IRA right for me?
That depends on your circumstances, and a website cannot judge them. Gold pays no interest or dividends and its price can fall. Speak with a licensed financial professional who is not paid on the sale.
Our verdict on Goldco
Goldco has what matters most in this business: a long, open record and customers who rate it highly, year after year. Add a buyback program that is written down, the choice of gold or silver, and the option of an IRA or home delivery, and it is easy to see why it is one of the first names people check.
The best next step costs nothing. Request the free kit, read it, and use the call to ask about the minimum, the depository and the buyback price. You will know within one conversation whether Goldco is the right company for you.
